The site is small and the view is the point. Caribbean under a Maya wall. You don't need four hours. You need to be there when the gate opens.
2026 ticket reality (this changed mid-year)
Early 2026 visitors were paying a stacked bill — INAH + CONANP + Parque del Jaguar — that ran toward roughly 625 MXN for foreigners. That version of the internet is still circulating, so ignore any post quoting it as current.
On 17 July 2026 a federal decree reset the gate. By late July the governor was saying out loud:
- Zona arqueológica: 265 MXN foreigners, 80 MXN Mexican nationals (unified — the extra park layer folded in)
- Parque del Jaguar and its beaches: free
- Electric shuttle inside: optional, 20 MXN adult / 10 MXN child
- Sundays: Mexicans still free at the ruins
- Kids / INAPAM / usual INAH exemptions: bring the ID
Walk if you want. The path from parking toward the gate is real sun.
Hours on recent official write-ups: ruins 8:00–17:00, last entry often 15:30. Be the 8:00 people.
How to get there
From Pueblo: colectivo toward the ruins on 307, in the 25–30 MXN neighborhood, or a taxi around 200–250 MXN. The site is a few kilometers from town, not a mystery.
From Playa: Tulum-bound colectivo on 307, get off at the ruins turn. From the beach road you need a cart or a taxi unless you enjoy that walk.
From Cancún: this is a day with a van. Fine if the ruins are the day. Silly as an afterthought after Akumal and a club.
Capacity and heat: midday is a queue in a parking lot. Opening is a site.
What you are looking at
El Castillo on the cliff, Templo de las Pinturas, a wall that once closed a port town. Swim access off the ruins beach has been on-again, off-again with park rules — don't build the day around a dip at the foot of the castle until you see whether that stair is open.
Guides at the gate are optional. The signs are enough for a first pass.
