Playa Norte and the Rest of Isla Mujeres

Norte is the beach. The rest of the island is a loop so you have a reason to rent the cart.

Playa Norte

North tip. West-facing into the bay, which is why the seaweed often loses here when Delfines is a compost pile. Shallow for a long walk. Families, first-timers, people who don't want a shorebreak.

Chairs belong to the clubs on the sand — Buho's, Zama, Poc-Na, Fenix, whoever painted this year. Loungers in recent lists ran 200–500 MXN, usually tied to a minimum consume. The public gaps between them are still public. Bring a towel if you don't want a waiter.

Depth: you can stand. That's the product. Snorkel off the beach is "some fish," not a wall.

When to go: first ferry, weekdays. Sunset is a crowd, and a good one.

Other Water

West pockets / Lancheros. Boats, palapas, a flatter afternoon. Good when Norte is a concert.

South / Garrafón water. Park ticket, gear, a contained snorkel. You can skip the park and still stand at Punta Sur for the cliff and the view. That viewpoint is the south end — Garrafón is the business next to it.

East side. Wind and rock. Photographs. Not the swim.

Tortugranja

On the southbound road. Turtles in tanks, a small conservation story, a fee that is not Gran Cenote money. Kids like it. It is not a beach day.

Cart or Walk

Norte plus town: walk. South loop: cart for the day, roughly $65–100 USD for a standard 4-seat daytime rental in 2026 shop windows, or a taxi out and back. Scooters if you enjoy gravel and no insurance — I wouldn't.
